Hello guys! Sorry, I'm afraid this isn't Hannah Hart related but I didn't know where else I could really post this and I know I can trust the Hartosexual community on some advice Basically, every year in November my college puts on a variety show where students perform on stage, be that singing, dancing or acting in front of an audience that consists of students, parents and teachers. Last year, two boys from my year group chose to shave their heads and wax their legs to raise money for a charity organisation which supported young children with cancer. I thought it was quite inspiring and this November, I was thinking about doing the exact same thing for Cancer Research UK, a similar charity, in the memory of my two Grandads who have both died of cancer.
I told my parents this and they're very against the idea, and reckon that within the first few weeks I'm going to regret it. They said that they'll let me do it since I'm so persistent "but don't go crying back to them when people stare or laugh at me". I mean, of course people are going to stare at me, it's not every day you see a 17 year old girl with very little hair and that's really not an issue for me. I know I've done this for a good cause and that's all that matters in my opinion. But I want to know what you guys think. Do you think it's a good idea for me to shave my head for charity?
Thank you guys, and again I'm sorry this isn't Hannah related - I hope you'll forgive me!

I think it's a great idea! Honesttly, I'm not bold enough to do it. I mean, I chopped of my hair quite short before, but go all the way? That's ballsy. But it's amazing that you wanna do it. I don't think you will regret it, since it is for an amazing cause, and you have a personal relationship to it. Also, if you find yourself missing your hair, remember this: it will always grow back. And once it grows back, you can experiment with different hairstyles, that you wouldn't have done before. I'm weirdly proud of you, that you wanna shave your head for charity. <3

Dude I totally know what you mean, the second my mom gives me flack like that over something I want to do, I instantly have all the doubts in the world about it. People won't laugh. Honestly I would assume a 17 year old girl who shaved her head donated her hair or something to that effect. I think you should if it's what you really want to do! And as someone who got rid of the majority of her hair recently I'm just going to throw it out there that it is THE BEST in terms of hair management lol. Hope things go good for you.

I think this is such a great idea! Ive also thought about doing this (well donating it) and having my hair super short, and the people I mentioned it to, kept saying things like your going to miss it, and regret it blah blah. (I havent found the courage to do it yet) But i think you should totally go for it! especially since you have personal connection to it.
And yeah hair always grows back! Plus Super short hair on girls is super cute, so who cares what everyone else thinks right?

I think it's a great idea! But as someone who pretty recently chopped all my hair off, I just want to say that you should be prepared for some people to be complete asses about it. The majority of people are awesome and totally cool, but then you get the people that are like WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL HAIR and OH MY GOODNESS YOU LOOK LIKE A BOY. So you gotta just brush all that stuff off and walk away like the fierce person you are. Also, if your family/you are worried about the growing back, hair grows pretty fast! I shaved the sides of my head a month ago and they're already super furry. I dont know how long your hair is now, but once it starts to grow out you can style it into a cute little pixie and you might learn that you really love having short hair!! And if not, it's just hair it will grow back (itll probably be harto length within a year!) and the statement you made and happiness you caused by donating it to charity are amazing things. So yeah, I say go for it!! And if you do, make sure to post pictures here so we can all see

I think it's a really good idea. Sure, some people might stare afterwards, but you just have to remember that you did it for a great cause. People also tend to think that when people stare they are thinking negative things, and that's not always the case! Quite a few times I've caught myself staring at someone because they had some funky hair do going on that I just loved. So if you do find people staring just think "they're obviously mesmerized by my awesome shaved head!"
I think doing these sort of things is also great for building your own self-confidence by going out of your comfort zone. So yeah, go for it!

VickyLeigh I have a big head that would look horrible with any haircut over the shoulders, but I've always been open to shave it/mohawk it to charity/if I ever had to pay rent. I've thought out the process so many times, if it was for cancer patients, I'd shave in or dye on a big ribbon on the side. I don't think it makes you look like an attention hog or pretending to be a patient, because if anyone ever asks, you can inform them on what and why you did it, and be a daily representative for the people stuck in the hospitals and lost ones. If anyone wants to insult that, they can fuck off. And if the shave ever looked too bad on me, I decided I would rock a scarf with it, too. Since it'll be November, I'd say you're good. I think I'm saving my locks for Alzheimer's related causes, because that's all over my family and it sucks.

This is an amazing idea!
People will probably stare, some might ask questions or comment, but there is those who just shrug it off and go on with their day. Hopefully you won't get any annoying comments about it and it is a really great thing you are doing. :>
I'm not brave enough to shave off my hair personally.

I was just talking about doing the same in another thread ... so, well personally I think it's a great idea. You can raise money and awareness for a great cause, start some conversations and experiment with all sorts of styles as it grows out. Hair is a fickle thing really. If anyone starts giving you flack for it they usually shut up pretty quickly once you say you did it for cancer.

This sounds like a GREAT idea. Sure some people might stare or make dumb comments but mostly those are people who just can't help themselves and their ignorance, so they're easily ignored. Mostly I think if your head is shaved people generally think your a cancer patient. I personally have cut my hair short and donated to Children With Hairloss twice and got the big "oh my gosh you cut it soooo short!!" and we just end up talking about it and all is just good. This pic is from the first time. I've cut it in 2-3yr increments. This December I will be cutting it very very short again Good Luck!! and good job!! Definitely share a pic once you've done it.
