Hey guys,
for Uni I'm working on a paper about youtube vs traditional media. There are several questions we ask, and I have my theories, but it would be good to get some other opinions as well. Also I might change my initial opinion, if someone points out something, that I havn't thought of before. It's a group project (hence the "we"), but my partner in crime isn't in the youtube community at all (though she starts to love it ). It gives an interesting perspective from her side, since she can look at everything from quite an objective point of view, that I just don't have anymore.
My question is, if you would be willing to give your opinion or maybe ask questions that I havn't thought of before. It would really help us out. And of course we would mention you for your help.
The questions we're asking are:
- Will youtube and traditional Media merge in the future. Also will the tubers become more like television, and will the TV companies start to venture into youtube? And if they do so: would they be successful?
- Will it be next to impossible for new channels to become successful, unless they network with the already established tubers, who promote the new channel, or have an improbable streak of luck?
(and the ones that interest us the most):
- more and more tubers try themselves in the television/movie industrie; eg PJ Ligouri and Charlie McDonnell make short movies, Chris Kendall works for BBC, the holy trinity just made a movie with the brothers Riedell (woohoo Camp Takota!!!) Will they be successfull in the long run / be able to compete with established shows? And will their different way of thinking and working maybe even change/challenge the industrie (or parts of it) in the future?
We're going to look at it from the point of view of television/movies and of music. We're also going to look at youtubes side of entrepreneurism and philanthropy (mainly with the example of vlogbrothers) For the others we would use the above named examples and probably Alex Day, Meghan Tonjes and Watsky for the musical side.
It would be amazing if I could get some ideas what you guys think. Or if you guys had suggestions for other/better examples, I would always apreciate it.
Also, I know that the girls are SUPER busy, but we wanted to take the long shot and ask for their opinions on this matter as well. Do you know what the best way of trying to contact them are? There are just so many possibilities and I'm a bit overwhelmed by it.
Sorry that this thing is so long. I wish you all a happy christmas!
